Beta-Hydroxy Acid (BHA) peels are superficial peels that help to rejuvenate the skin. Dead skin cells are removed from the surface of the skin, and the metabolism of the remaining cells is enhanced. The end result of a treatment with the Beta-Hydroxy peel is smoother, softer, and more radiant-looking skin.

Simply put, the BHA peel is a method of exfoliating your skin. It is suitable for treating all types of skin. People from any age group and gender can opt for this treatment. Many areas of the body can be treated with this superficial peel.

What This Peel Treats

The superficial BHA peel can treat a number of skin problems. Exposing your skin to the sun and polluted air and water can damage your skin. Damaged skin becomes hard and dull, because there is an excessive accumulation of dead cells beneath your skin. The BHA peel will extract these dead cells and give your skin a bright, fresh, and soft look and feel.

Acne breakouts and enlarged pores can be reduced by the BHA peel. It can take care of uneven pigmentation and superficial lines on your skin. Melasma, a hormonal pigmentation problem, can also be treated. Sunspots, dry and aging skin, oily skin with acne scars, whiteheads, blackheads, and other skin imperfections are all treatable.

Pre-Treatment

During your consultation with the doctor, your skin concerns will be discussed. You will be advised on how to prepare for the treatment. In all probability, you will be required to use a brightening cream.

The brightening cream has to be applied to the body part that will be exfoliated. It has to be applied on a daily basis for about two weeks before the BHA peel treatment. The cream suppresses the production of melanin and prevents post-inflammatory pigmentation after the treatment.

How the Peel Works

Human skin continuously undergoes change. Dead skin cells keep getting replaced by newer cells, but as people age, the rate of this exfoliation slows down. The resulting thick layer of dead cells that accumulate in the top layer makes the skin dull and rough.

The beta-hydroxy acid eliminates these dead skin cells and allows for the creation of new and healthy skin cells. These absorb healthy nutrients and pass them on to the cells in the deeper layers of the skin. Proper circulation of healthy nutrients and continuous growth of new skin cells keeps the outer skin fresh and healthy.

The treatment can be completed in four to six sessions. There cannot be a gap of more than two to six weeks between each session. Each session takes about 30 minutes to complete. The BHA peel can be combined with anti-aging treatments.

Post-Treatment

The results of your peel will be visible immediately. You will have to use mild non-abrasive cleansers for a week to care for the skin. Avoid the sun as your skin recovers, and use high SPF sunscreens whenever you step outside. Any dryness from the treatment will go away soon, and you’ll be able to return to work the same day as your treatment.
